Big Orange gains sponsor, starts contest
3-31-99: The Big Orange server recently announced a sponsor - Babel SF, a science fiction/fantasy publisher. Big Orange is giving away Babel SF books in larger games.
Other activities at Big Orange include the largest multi-player game on the Net.
SC Room also learned on the sly that Big Orange will soon be giving away Voodoo III in one of its games ( I think a TCBOO, whatever that is).
Tool gone? Pressenter hard to reach?
3-30-99: Tool has been down for several days. Someone "pinged" the server and found it was gone. The theory is, when mortis returns the Stellar Crisis server will return.
I could not reach PressEnter late tonight. The problem may have been too many people using my ISP, or it may be the server is down. (3-31-99: The server comes up fine now).
Gooseberry finds another cloaker trick
3-28-99: Gooseberry shared another cloaker trick in the talk forum at Yahoo's SC Club. Read for yourself why this bird is one of the toughest to cook in a game of Stellar Crisis.
Aztec fixes up Multi-Server Login Screen
3-26-99: Aztec Empire continues to work on his Multi-Server Login Screen, which should soon include v3.0 servers, too, thanks to the help of Rowan Deppler.
HitBOX added for checks
3-17-99: I added a HitBOX banner last night that includes javascript. I tried a javascript a few weeks ago and it appeared I locked out a lot of people. HitBOX tracks everything, from monitor sizes used by those visiting to browsers, plug-ins and, get this, if you can read Java.
I took it down this morning after it kept locking up my browser. Also, LinkExchange numbers made it appear that I took a big hit in visits shortly after implementing HitBOX. So far, HitBox reports two people could not read javascript and quite a few had java turned off.
I was amazed by the size of monitors used by those visiting, ranging up to 1,200 x 1,600 for one user.
Baby contest over: It's a boy.
3-17-99: As announced yesterday, the editor at GameStats and his wife gave birth to Max John Hoskin. So the baby contest is over at GameStats.
There are two new contests on the contest page. I also added several new places to visit the latest in the net dance craze. You may remember it all started with the Dancing Hampsters. Latest craze includes the Dancing Jesus.
Resources, FAQ moved to new page
3-14-99: I did a little house keeping today. Surprise, I found the links at the top of the page did not work. Not one of the over 6,000 visitors-per-week to this main page let me know the links did not work. In an effort to make the page load faster, I created a FAQ introduction page. The page also includes various resources for the game.
Statistically, 3-7 p.m. is best time to play
3-13-99: OK, in a fit of wonder, I sought out my LinkExchange statistics and figured out that 3-7 p.m., Pacific Time, was the best time to find a game of Stellar Crisis. During the hour between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., yesterday, 136 people visited SC Room. That's the best in several weeks. Most of the time I am lucky to get 100-120 visitors in a peak hour.
Robert E. Lee named new General
3-13-99: Robert E. Lee is the latest Dead General, taking the place of Geronimo, who opted to go on the war path with another clan, for now. But he would be welcomed back as a Dead General any time.
Angelique changes name to Insomnia
3-10-99: The Angelique server, maintained by Agt, has changed its name to Insomnia v2.8.6.1
New GS Contest posted
3-8-99: The "Close" To You Contest starts, with seven copies of Close Combat III, The Russian Front up for grabs.
Welcome Televar SC Room Users!!
3-8-99: In an effort to get more people using SC Room at GameStats, and to please my Internet Provider by getting the 100-plus pages of SC Room off its server, I have opted to refresh pages to GameStats. Welcome all Televar server users at what I hope is a faster, more reliable and complete SC Room. There are several unique features here, including a search option.
It's official: PressEnter server is back!!
3-7-99: The PressEnter server is officially back according to admin Ryan Schultz. PressEnter offered Stellar Crisis Aug. 5 to Dec. 13, 1996. It came back on the air, unofficially, in November. The game was offered privately to subscribers at PressEnter. But word is out and Ryan says the more competition the better.
